Coko, who led SWV’s Top Ten pop hits such as “I’m So Into You” and “Weak” during the 1990s, is back on the block with her debut urban inspirational/gospel CD, Grateful (Light Records). Standing before a crowd at an XM Radio invitation-only concert taping recently, Coko said, “I wasn’t always grateful. I had to go through some things that now make me grateful for everything God has done for me.” Boasting producers such as Warren Campbell, Donald Lawrence, Asaph Ward, Shep Crawford and Coko’s husband, Mike Clemons, the project bridges the gap between urban and gospel radio with a seamless cohesion. The first gospel single is the bouncy “Clap Your Hands” and urban radio will be serviced with the funky, “I Get Joy.”
