THE GONG DJ BATTLE - NEW YORK is Roc Raida’s shot of adrenaline to the arm of a very lethargic DJ battle scene. No feelings were spared in his no-holds-barred all out battle for DJ supremacy. If a DJ didn’t deliver, he got gonged out by any or all of the judges including: DJ Scratch (1988 NMS World Champ/EPMD), Rob Swift (formerly of the X-Ecutioners),
DJ Cash Money (1988 DMC World Champ), DJ Spinbad (Power 105.1 & Z100) and GrandWizzard Theodore (inventor of the scratch).
The first ever THE GONG DJ BATTLE - NEW YORK DVD features over 15 years of battle styles, from the oldest world champ still battling,
DJ Supreme (91 NMS Champ & former DJ for Lauren Hill) to (then) 13 year old A Plus who’s just beginning to make a name for himself on the scene. The battle is laced with comic stylings and instigating commentary from not one, but three hosts: Lord Finesse (DITC), Lord Sear (Sirius: Shade 45) and the DJ scene’s favorite hype man, DJ Fat Fingaz. THE GONG DJ BATTLE - NEW YORK comes heavy with both comedy and the drama and tension of the battle.
Of the top 8 finalists who included As One, Kinetic, Steel, Illogix, Slip Wax and DJ Supreme, DJ I-Dee (Isaac DeLima) from VA, and Complex (Pete Diaz) of NYC, emerged as the top contenders in the “Do or Die” final round. Young, angry and armed with everything from Ozzy’s “Crazy Train” to the theme from “Taxi”, I-Dee came with the skills, selection, drama, humor and burning disses that convinced the judges to crown him The First Ever Gong DJ Battle Champion!
