Curtains For Jurassic 5

News of *Jurassic 5’s* breakup was confirmed on *DJ Semtex’s BBC
1xtra* show last Friday. The rumor began a few weeks back when the group’s
spokesman, *Soup* conversed with the *Golden Coast Bulletin* on their
tour to Australia and Japan, declaring, “after the tour, that’s
basically it. People see us as a harmonizing, loving group, but that’s
far from the truth. When it comes down to it, some people here want
their own shine, their own thing.” Indeed, each member of J5 will
commence solo projects immediately. *Chali 2na* already has a
full-length in the pipeline arriving in September, featuring *Damian*
and *Stephen Marley*, and *Raphael Saadiq*.

The seeds of Jurassic 5 were sown over 15 years ago with two separate
LA-based groups the *Unity Committee*, comprised of *Nu-Mark, Cut
Chemist*, and Chali 2na, and the *Rebels Of Rhythm*, composed of MC’s
*Zaakir* (Soup), *Mark 7even*, and *Akil*. In 1990, the two tribes
collaborated on, *“Unified Rebelution,”* a success that sealed
their fate as Jurassic 5. Setting a precedent for the remaining members, Cut
Chemist disassociated with the famed hip hop collective in 2003.
